Tom Hanks

Hanks was seen with Ron Howard in his next character, which was as Commander and Astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). Critics generally applauded the film as well as the performances of the entire cast, including actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks was later seen as Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). The next year the director made his debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the rise and fall of a 1960s-era pop group, also playing the role of a producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine called his performance "charming" and the majority of experts agreed that Hanks performance earned him a place among the premier romantic-comedy stars of his time.
